The SACEEC represents the capital equipment and project sector both for new projects and the aftermarket. It is also the endorsed representative body for the consulting engineers and their associated bodies, merchant bankers – with reference to their involvement in financing capital projects, capital equipment suppliers and suppliers of services to the capital project sector.

The SACEEC is an indispensable part of the globalisation of the South African Industry. It provides a facilitating role in assisting the capital equipment sector companies to grow their business through exporting. To that end it takes a proactive role in, amongst others:

  • Assisting its members to maximise markets through providing early leads on opportunities
  • Organises outward selling and inward buying missions
  • Organisers pavilions at international exhibitions and assists individual companies to attend specific exhibitions or engage in primary market research
  • Provides the one-stop access to suppliers of the sector and simplifies the identification of suppliers for international sourcing
  • Provides the vehicle for encouraging the sharing of export related facilities and manpower and the monthly SACEEC meetings provide good opportunities for the members to network
  • Encourages the development of consortiums and the packaging of international projects
  • Facilitates liaison with all departments of government
  • Provides access to the combined voice of the sector on issues relating to finance

Association of representatives for the electronics industry

arei (formerly ADEC), was established in 1991 as a non-profit association, representing the interests of electronics industry in South Africa. Similar organizations exist in Europe.

arei‘s prime objective is to contribute to the creation of an environment which encourages a dynamic growth of the electronic manufacturing industry, at both component and system level, in South Africa.

Today, arei’s membership represent Suppliers, Distributors, Electronic Manufacturing Services and Original Equipment Manufacturers.

Worldwide, the electronics industry is an enabling industry for the growth of a country’s overall economy, and it is no co-incidence that the most developed countries in the world have a thriving electronics industry. Hence arei sees one of its key aims as communicating this message to government and policy-making bodies throughout South Africa, as there is a need for a more focused and coherent policy for the electronics manufacturing industry. To achieve this, arei has, in the past, sponsored studies of various sectors of the electronics industry and these findings have been published in technical magazines during the past years.

Creamer Media was launched by journalist Martin Creamer on Friday 13 of March 1981. Creamer Media’s first title was a fortnightly newspaper called Engineering News. It soon became a very successful weekly newspaper increasingly well-respected by industrial and mining decision-makers as a crucial source of business news and information.In the 1990s, Mining Weekly was launched as an additional publication distributed each week with Engineering News. Artisan Training Institute

The company was established in 1982 as a subsidiary of the Anglo-Alpha Group of Companies; In February 1999, the company became Ikhaya Fundisa Techniskills Academy (IFTA).

In April 2008, IFTA was purchased by new owners and new management took control. The quality and scale of operations changed substantially during this period, which prompted the need to rebrand as the Artisan Training Institute (ATI) in October 2012; During 2012, the trades MC & I, and rigging was launched in Roodepoort.

Since 2008 the company has grown from 17 to 91 permanent staff in 2019 and currently operates from Roodepoort, Port Shepstone and Kimberley.

ATI is the technical skills training provider in the Gauteng – Regional Centre of Expertise, officially recognised by the United Nations University.

Mining Equipment Manufacturers of South Africa

Formally established in 2016, Mining Equipment Manufacturers of South Africa is an industry cluster organisation aimed at advocating for and promoting the interests of its members and the mining equipment manufacture industry in South Africa, more broadly. MEMSA is housed in the Mining Precinct, at the heart of Gauteng, South Africa’s primary mining equipment manufacturing region.

The SA Institution of Mechanical Engineering (SAIMechE)

SAIMechE is the senior body representing the discipline of mechanical engineering in South Africa. It covers all fields of application as diverse as automobile, energy generation, process engineering, heavy manufacture, design, management, research, mining and education. SAIMechE is over a century old, and originated as the South African Association of Engineers and Architects, established in 1892. SAIMechE is a voluntary association of Mechanical Engineers, Technologists and Technicians that have access to various grades of membership and the associated benefits.

Southern African Institute of Mining & Metallurgy

The Southern African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (SAIMM) started as a learned society in 1894 after the invention of the cyanide process that saved the South African gold mining industry of the day. This 125-year-old professional body enjoys both local and international links aimed at disseminating knowledge and assisting our members source information regarding technological developments in the mining, metallurgical and related sectors. The overarching objective is to ensure that our engineers remain relevant and are able to continue developing professionally as they progress in their respective careers. They are also guided by a professional code of ethics that ensures reciprocity with similar bodies around the globe. This allows us to collaborate on global initiatives and to influence policy that directly affects our industry. The SAIMM also actively participates in promoting and meeting industry-related obligations to various communities and the environment. This is consistent with the SAIMM’s Constitution.

Mandela Mining Precinct

The Mandela Mining Precinct is a Public-Private Partnership between the Department of Science and Innovation (DSI) and the Minerals Council of South Africa. It is an initiative aimed at revitalising mining research, development and innovation in South Africa to ensure the sustainability of the industry.
